ILCA Frostbite » ILCA Frostbite
Sun 29th November, 12:00pm-4:00pm
ILCA / Laser Frostbiting starts the 2nd Sunday in October and runs to the weekend after Thanksgiving or further if weather permits (or due to club construction). We try to get on the water at noon then do as many short races as we can. Sometimes we have race committee and sometimes we don't. When we don't we will do Rabbit Starts (definition below or google search "sailing rabbit start"). There are usually both ILCA 6's and 7's out. 4.7's are welcome!
This year is the First Annual ILCA Frostbite Regatta on October 25! ILCA Frostbite Regatta
How a Rabbit Start Works
- The Rabbit: One designated boat (the "rabbit") sails upwind on a close-hauled port tack along an imaginary starting line.
- The Fleet: All other competing boats wait on starboard tack.
- Crossing: As the rabbit moves past, each boat in the fleet ducks behind the rabbit's stern one by one.
- Starting: A boat officially starts the moment it crosses behind the rabbit's stern
