Monday Double Handed
Rick Johnson Double Handed Memorial Series
ClubSpot race site can be found here.
The Rick Johnson Double Handed Memorial Series is a Lake St. Clair tradition focused on the essentials: good competition, simple logistics, and camaraderie.
The series is held on Monday nights and features two distinct sessions:
- Spring Series: June
- Summer Series: August
Racing consists of Jib and Main (JAM) configurations with both PHRF and One-Design starts. The course is set on Lake St. Clair, with the iconic experience of starting and finishing directly in front of the Crescent Sail Yacht Club.
The series concludes with our traditional awards party, held in August the Monday following the CSYC Summer Regatta.
The Legacy
Rick Johnson was a veteran sailor and yacht salesman who saw the need for a format that offered competitive racing without the logistical burden of a large crew. He launched the series in 1991 to fill a gap in the local schedule, and with his wife Shery as a trusted hand, the event quickly became a Grosse Pointe staple.
Ricks vision was built on "simple logistics," creating a space where just two friends, a parent-child or husband-wife team could compete without the stress of managing a full crew. We continue this series to honor Rick and Sherys commitment to keeping racing simple, challenging, and fun.
